The Bazaar

The Bazaar, Organs market area and center of commerce, will consist of a square shaped area as a private street within the double perimeter configuration of approximately 288 double stacked steel shipping containers (40′ x 8 x 8′), which will be utilized as artisan shops, farmers market, service micro-enterprises, offices, a spay and neuter clinic, a health clinic, child care, restaurants cafes, galleries, architecture studios, and a recycling center, to name a few. Anything a community could want will be a step away. The live/work spaces are a perfect combination of efficiency and sustainable ambition, balancing the entrepreneurs’ need for exposure and a livable and stimulating environment.

Prior to purchase or rental from the organ co-op each unit will insulated on the outside with spray on insulation such as ceramic paint or cement made from recycled aggregate in order to protect the structure from the elements and insure energy efficiency. In order to further increase efficiency, the management of Organ is pursuing partnerships with manufacturers in order to help tenants obtain low costs solar panels as well assist in developing and testing new energy efficient technologies.

Units will also include plumbing, electrical, and air-conditioning systems. Tenants will have the option to buy or lease one or two story units, each constructed from two – four shipping containers. Tenants can also chose from a variety of build-out options for their units dependent on their needs and ability. They can also utilize in-house architects and contractors to finish out their unit, or complete interior construction themselves. All build out will be constructed to code, and green construction will be encouraged.

The broad walkway within the inner perimeter of the Bazaar will also be constructed from recycled materials. On weekends the walkway will function as a farmers market. (Once construction of the Hive/Inner Sanctum is complete, gardens within the Sanctum area will provide much of the produce for the farmers market, as well as for restaurants in the Bazaar). Dedicated containers within the outer walls will contain handicap restrooms for men and women. All areas will be safe and handicap accessible. A security guard will be on-duty at night when the shops are closed.

The Bazaar will be constructed in four separate phases, with each of the four legs of the square or “O” constructed separately. Upon completion of each phase, units within the “leg” will be immediately available for build-out and move-in. Each phase is fully operative and “grows” to allow subsequent developing phases to be added. The entire endeavor demonstrates a sensible method of construction and natural growth as a viable way of enjoying the journey as well as the finished result.
